The Government of the Italian Republic has decided to increase its support for the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation by EUR 500,000. “This is sign of our engagement in the preservation of the Memorial,” the Italian ambassador to Poland Aldo Amati wrote.

‘Italy is a country where the memory of this historical period is very much alive. It is not without reason that the Italians have been one of the most frequent visitors to the Memorial in recent years. I am pleased that by supporting our Fund, they are laying the foundations for education and greater awareness for future generations,’ said Dr. Piotr M. A. Cywiński, Director of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum and President of the Foundation.

‘The Italian Government is yet another, which, notwithstanding the ongoing pandemic, has decided to provide substantial support to the Foundation’s endowment fund. I trust that we will be able to persuade other countries to follow in the footsteps of Rome so that we can fully carry out the Foundation’s mission - to secure the conservation of all remains of the German Nazi Auschwitz camp,’ said Wojciech Soczewica, Director-General of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation.

The Italian donation to the Foundation currently amounts to EUR 1.5 million, which places the country among the 7 largest donors to the Foundation.
